Caithness RFC vs Gordonians (15-27)

Caithness lost to Gordonians 15-27 in the Regional Shield cup match today at Millbank. Gordonians dominated the first half and went in at half-time 15-3 up. Caithness were awarded a penalty try just after the break and Gary MacKay scored the conversion to make it 10-15. The Greens had lots of pressure and nearly scored 3 tries (including a potential penalty try), but Gordonians scored two more breakaway tries to make it 10-27.

Caithness had all the pressure in the last 10 mins and John Miller finally got a try in the last minute.

Halkirk vs Castletown (3-0) league play off

Halkirk beat Castletown 3-0 in the Caithness AFA league play-off at Morrison Park last night and they will now play in Divison 1 next season, while Castletown drop down to division 2.

Ruari McCartney and Ian MacKay scored in the first half, while Michael Bremner scored a penalty mid-way through the 2nd half.

Thurso Swifts vs Wick Groats (1-13)

Due to car trouble, I only caught the last 15 mins of the Swifts vs Wick Groats game. Groats were already 13 -1 in front! They could have scored at least two more, but it ended 13-1. Groats won the league, but there is a protest about them fielding a banned player at the start of the season and the decision about the championship winners is awaited. It could be Pentland Utd if the protest is successful.

Steven Cup Final - Halkirk vs High Ormlie Hotspur (3-1)

Halkirk beat High Ormlie Hotspur 3-1 in the final of the Steven Cup tonight in Lybster. Paul Mackay scored Halkirk's first with a screamer into the postage stamp corner after 10 mins. Iain MacKay slotted home the 2nd after 17mins. Early in the 2nd half Halkirk scored a 3rd, but HOH dominated the rest of the game and were unlucky to only score 1 (by Ben Gordon).

The game was marred by a nasty knee injury to a HOH player.
